Myanmar delegation led by Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne attends the World Food Day 2023 event held at the FAO Headquarters

The World Food Day 2023 event took place at the FAO Headquarters on 16 October with the theme – Water is Life, Water if Food – Leave No One Behind, marking its 78th Anniversary of FAO establishment. Myanmar delegation led by Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne attended the event along with the representatives of other FAO Member States.

At the event, FAO Director General QU Dongyu stressed the necessity of water in food security in his opening remarks, highlighting that “the vital connection between water and food – without water there is no food and there is no food security without water security”. Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella, Irish President Micael D. Higgins, IFAD President Alvaro Lario, and WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain were present and honoured the event and delivered speeches, emphasizing the essential element of water in food security and sustainable food system transformation.
