ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) engaged in an informal meeting with the EU Delegation to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture
On 25 May 2023, Ambassadors of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) under the Chairmanship of Viet Nam engaged in an informal meeting with Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg, Head of the EU Delegation in Rome representing the Embassies of Sweden and Spain to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture.
At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on possible collaborations based on their shared priorities between ASEAN and EU in the works of the FAO and the Rome-based Agencies (RBAs) ahead of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference and in the preparations for the 2023 UN Food Systems Stock Taking Moment.
During the meeting, Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne shared Myanmar’s efforts and contributions to achieving a sustainable food system and nutrition, particularly transformation of agri-food systems towards 2030 Agenda. The Ambassador also pointed out that the challenges such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, poverty, and etc., which are threatening food security and nutrition, are essential to be addressed timely and urgently in the effective cooperation and efforts of national, regional and global. In these endeavours, the Ambassador reiterated that Myanmar is committed to working and collaborating with all partners, including EU and all FAO member states, through ensuring effective FAO action, to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
