Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne participated in the visit of the Ambassadors of the Diplomatic Corps to the European Space Research Institute (ESA-ESRIN)

On 20 April 2023, Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne participated in the visit of the Ambassadors of the Diplomatic Corps in Rome to the European Space Research Institute (ESA-ESRIN) with the arrangement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) of Italy.

The Ambassadors accompanied by Mr. Claudio Miscia, Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Protocol of the MFAIC were welcomed by Mr. Simonetta Cheli, Head of ESRIN and Director of Earth Observation Programmes at the ESA-ESRIN where he presented about the ESRIN, its visions, missions and activities carried out related to Earth Observations. The Ambassadors were also briefed by ESA Astronaut Ms. Samantha Cristoforetti on her first 200 days Futura mission and the second 170 days Minerva mission to the International Space Station. The Ambassadors then toured ESRIN facilities – Earth Data Visualisation Centre (Φ-Experience), Earth Observation Multimedia Center, Memorabilia Wall and the Science Hub. At the end of the tours, the Ambassadors and the participants enjoyed a working lunch hosted by the Head of ESRIN.

ESRIN is a Center for Earth Observation of European Space Agency (ESA) based in Rome, and is focused on operations of Earth observation missions, and management of ESA’s Earth observation satellites. In fact, ESRIN is the primary source for the acquisition, distribution, and exploitation of data from these and other non-ESA satellites.
