Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne Participates in the 58th ADB Annual Meeting

Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Italy, participated in the 58th ADB Annual Meeting, from 4 to 7 May 2025 at Allianz MiCo- Milano Convention Centre in Milan. The opening session took place on Monday, 5 May 2025 at 10:00 am local time. Delegates were addressed by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Mr. Giancarlo Georgetti as the Guest of Honor, ADB President Mr. Masato Kanda, and the Governor of the Bank of Italy and Chair of the ADB Board of Governors, Mr. Gabio Panetta.
In his opening address, the Governor of the Bank of Italy and Chair of the ADB Board of Governors, Mr. Gabio Panetta stressed the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand at the end of March and underlined the swift response of the ADB to the approval for a grant to support the emergency and humanitarian needs of the people affected.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved to provide a $3 million grant to support the people affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on 28 March. It is learnt that the grant will be provided through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to meet immediate needs through the distribution of in-kind food and multi-purpose cash assistance to purchase essential items, such as drinking water, medical supplies, and shelter.
In the evening of 6 May 2025, Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne attended the reception hosted by the ADB President Mr. Masato Kanda. At the reception, Ambassador Hmway Hmway Khyne had the opportunity to personally greet the ADB President Mr. Masato Kanda and expressed appreciation for the ADB’s support for Earthquake Relief in Myanmar.
