Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attends the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Meetings

Myanmar Delegation led by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar attended the Opening Ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, and participated in the 44th ASEAN Summit (Plenary Session), the 45th ASEAN Summit (Retreat Session), the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) and ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth, which were separately held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 9 October 2024.

Heads of State/Heads of Government from ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN Secretary-General attended the said events, and Prime Minister of Timor-Leste also attended as an observer.

At the 44th ASEAN Summit (Plenary Session), the ASEAN Chair updated the priority deliverables under the three community pillars in 2024, and ASEAN Leaders discussed on the overall progress in the development of the strategic plans of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, cooperation among ASEAN and its external partners and the implementation status of the Roadmap for Timor-Leste’s Full Membership in ASEAN. At the 45th ASEAN Summit (Retreat Session), ASEAN Leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues, and discussed the progress on the implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, and the Permanent Secretary of Myanmar briefed the meeting on the developments in Myanmar, including Myanmar’s cooperation in the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus and the Government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in Myanmar.

At the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Leaders discussed cooperation among parliaments of ASEAN Member States with a focus towards a peaceful, people-centered, people-oriented and rules-based region. ASEAN Leaders acknowledged the recommendations by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) and emphasized the importance of enhancing intra-regional economic, trade, and investment opportunities. They also underscored for the strengthening of public-private partnerships and the sustainable development of the region during the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN-BAC. Also, at the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth, Leaders extensively discussed on enhancing the capacity of youth and employment opportunities by keeping ASEAN youth abreast with the advancement in digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
